A veces se precisan varios pasos para la amplificación alimentados cada uno por el anterior, formando un amplificador de varios pasos.
El acoplamiento entre dos pasos permite la conexión de sus circuitos para la recíproca transferencia de su energía. El acoplamiento puede ser por inducción mutua, electromagnético, por capacidad, electrostático, o por impedancia común (resistencia, autoinducción, capacidad o circuito sintonizado).
Se llama acoplamiento crítico al límite de acoplamiento entre dos circuitos sintonizados, rebasado el cual la curva de resonancia se desdobla.
Se llama acoplamiento de reacción o regenerativo al que permite transferir a los circuitos anteriores al que permite transferir a los circuitos anteriores parte de la energía de los siguientes.
